When I learned about postpartum doulas, I had two thoughts: First, I wished that I had known about this kind of support when my daughter was born! And next, I thought “Wow, that is the perfect job for me!” Once I started working as a postpartum doula, I realized that I was SO right! I love what I do and can’t imagine doing anything else.
I am especially drawn to supporting strong attachment and bonding between parents and their new baby, as well as pregnancy/postpartum mental and emotional health. These two things play such a big part in our parenting journeys and affect every aspect of our lives. As parents, it can be easy to forget to care for ourselves in the business and beauty of our daily life.
Since I was a child, I have loved helping others. I have always been drawn to working with children and families – my job experience includes working in child care centers, preschools, and as a nanny. I especially love babies! After having my daughter, I realized how important it was to be supported in the pregnancy and postpartum period. Not only does support make the physical household tasks easier, it is also incredibly crucial to emotional and mental health to feel understood and valued.
I live in Northeast Minneapolis with my husband and our almost three-year-old daughter. She is hilarious, strong-willed, incredibly clever, and has eyes bluer than the sea! We love hiking and exploring outside, watching local live music, riding bikes around the city, and cooking delicious food. I am active in the local babywearing and attachment parenting communities and love meeting families who share similar interests!
